Summer of Leisure

I don't ever remember a past summer in my adult life where I have had a summer of leisure.
I decided to take this summer off from classes and work since I have been working so hard without a break for the last few years.

It's been a very indulgent summer filled with dance parties, leisurely lunches with friends, antiquing and thrifting.  And of course, extra dancing!

I'm looking forward to the beginning of the new semester, returning to my teaching assistantship and my classes.  It's going to get crazy.  I will also be competing in three competitions as long as my classes aren't too overwhelming.  I look forward to slightly cooler temperatures, fall wardrobes (fall dressing is so much more interesting) and fun fall activities.

This weekend has been busy....I attended two dance parties (just like last weekend) which is rare for me.  I attended my family reunion (and helped plan it) and went to friend's fabulous birthday party.

Here's what I wore......

Dress, New York and Company, $16.50 on clearance;  Shoes, Nine West
Friday night dance party

J.C. Penney dress
Saturday; the family reunion with my little guy.....

Jumpsuit, T.J. Maxx
Saturday night dance party and the birthday party before that....

It was fun to dance in this very comfortable jumpsuit; but bathroom trips were not so fun!  Had to undo a little button in the back of the neck....not so easy when your hair is wild and sweaty from dancing and gets caught in the button!

I am grateful for all the leisurely pleasures I've had the good fortune to experience this summer.  I am also grateful that this indulgence is not something that I will experience every day.  I'm eager to back to my normal schedule; the long hours studying and grading papers and competing.  Yes, I'm eager to get back to the hard work.

  3. Yup, it's good to take some time off to 'play' especially in the summer. But, then, most of us like to get back into the routine of our lives. the jumpsuit looks good on you. I've never worn one (unless you count the UGLY green gymsuit from high school).

    1. Thank You! The platform shoes were a bit stiff to walk in..pretty but dangerous!

  5. I'm with you on the Fall clothing. I enjoy the summer leisure too, but love getting back into the swing of things and regular schedule when the school year starts back up again.
Be careful in those shoes!! I've fallen 4 times in the last two years as a result of my shoes. ;) That dress fits you perfectly!

    1. Joni...thankfully the platforms are lower, but I honestly don't know how anyone, regardless of age, can walk on the super tall platforms. They are so inflexible. When I see someone walk in them...their gait is not natural.

Thank you for the compliment on the dress....I really felt good in it all night long.

    1. Thank you......I had only gone into the store to pay my cc bill...and walked out with that dress. I guess it was kismet because I had rejected that dress previously due to the 50 something price tag!

  8. I'm glad you had the summer off as I feel I've gotten to know you. It's been years since I've been able to afford to not work during summer school. I hope you are able to blog a bit as well when school begins. What does your teaching assistantship involve?

    1. Terri, I'm working on my Master's degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Gerontology and an additional certification in Addictions Counseling. I teach an introductory Human Development class to undergrads. I absolutely love it and would love to teach at this level permanently. It seems that I am a natural teacher.

  12. I love the dresses in this post. I'm on a bit of a dress kick recently. The shapes are really modern but both the floral and the stripes are really classic. Also, I wanted to let you know that I randomly watched Strictly Ballroom this weekend and completely thought of your blog.

    1. Thanks for the compliment! I've been on a dress kick for years! LOL....

I love that movie! It's kind of 90's kitsch...but it's still fun and there is plenty of dancing. Of course I own all of the dance movies....I can't get enough of ballroom dance.
Thank GOD that the style of competition dresses and hairstyles have evolved since the 90's (when that movie was made) and we don't still wear the ankle length gowns with the ostrich feathers!

  13. Sometimes we need to have more time to ourselves - and it seems you have AND that you have made the most of it - you sound so excited :) I had to drop out of my MBA this semester as I have a lot of work trips, but hopefully I will get back in track soon.
I also think that your jumpsuit is amazing !

    1. Thank you for the compliment! I have made the most of my summer, but I'm so ready to go back. Keep working on that MBA when you life is less hectic. That is probably one of the most versatile and practical degrees you could possess. Work trips like the one you are on are nice though, aren't they?
