I just can't pass up a good LBD at the thrift store.
Yesterday, I was looking for some thrifted jeans for my rough and tumble boy who has outgrown or blown out the knees of most of his jeans.
I had no luck finding him ANYTHING. I think there are many boys like Peyton who wear their pants till they are not wearable any longer.
I did find an LBD! Of course, since I was there, I had to look. This black true wrap dress was a perfect fit. Unlike the pretty green and black printed one I posted previously, it fits me well and was very comfortable to wear. I had to get it.
I thought I would add some fun to it with this pom-pom scarf. The color is actually a little more teal than blue like this; it's a darker more saturated color than it appears to be here. It was definitely fun to wear.
I also found this great coat. It may be difficult to see detail in the picture; but its a fantastic Anne Klein coat. The coat is made of Mohair and Wool, but it isn't an itchy wool as most wools are on me. The condition was pristine and best of all it has a HOOD! I've been searching so long for a hooded coat. I'm beyond excited about this coat.
It was waiting just for me in the store.
It's kind of like a love story.....we spotted one another across a crowded room.
This coat was hanging on the end cap of a dress rack; misplaced. It was the first thing I saw when I walked in the door. I made a beeline for it and hoped it would fit.
Happy dance!
Its exactly what I have been looking for in a coat.
I'll try to get some better pictures at a later date; this one just doesn't do it justice. I checked online when I got home and found a charcoal grey duplicate listed on Ebay for $99.00. I got a steal on mine; IT WAS $15.00!!!!!
*when I find a great piece, I try to check it our on line to see what it retailed for*
I also found a pair of Cache' trousers in a 'goldenrod' color for $10.00 which I found online for $99.00 and a cute black velvet blazer for $5.00.
I'm excited about the blazer too, because yesterday I fell in love with a black velvet jacket/blazer that a woman at the boutique I visited was wearing. It was similar to my new one, but had been fancied up with delicate pleated chiffon cuffs peeking out from the sleeves and a ribbon tie closure. It was so cute and I can easily recreate the look with this jacket.
She told me that she had purchased it as a discounted sample at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago for about $50.00. Hmmm.....let's see, if I spend another $5 on lace and ribbon....I still end up with her jacket at an 80% discount over what she paid (and she got it discounted too). I'd say I got a good deal.
I also purchased an Eddie Bauer teal pullover sweater. I've been looking for teal.
I think all the gaps in my wardrobe are filled except for the elusive navy blue turtleneck. I need to stay out of thrift stores for awhile.
I've had extremely good luck finding good quality items at ridiculously low prices.
The thrifting 'lucky stars' have lined up for me and I'm extremely grateful.
Now I need to focus on wearing as many of these gorgeous items as I can.
I am thankful, this holiday for so many things;
my thrifting luck,
my new blogger friends
my trusty old friends
my sons and grandson and my husband who supports my frivolity
my health and home
my educational opportunities
dance
freedom
I wish all of you a very safe Thanksgiving with your loved ones. Thank you for reading.
That dress is gorgeous on you. And I love the pom pom scarf; I've actually been looking for one and you've convinced me to keep looking.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see your velvet blazer!
Thank you Gracey. This scarf had a tag on it that said 'Taleen'. I got it at a boutique style shop. I hope you find one soon!
ReplyDeleteYou have had some great thrifting luck! Please send some my way, because my thrifting luck has been horrible. This is a fabulous dress! Can't wait to see what you do with the velvet blazer. You reminded me that I have one somewhere, lol :) Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Heather
ReplyDeleteI'm not a talented seamstress and I might try and convince/bribe/beg my cousin, who is avery talented at refashioning things to give me a hand with it.
DeleteMaybe you will dig yours up too!
Sending you some good thrift karma right now...........
I do the exact same when I get a good deal! It's almost more exciting when you find out something you thrifted because you love it is a pricey item at full retail! It's so exciting!
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely in teal, Lisa!
It is so exciting isn't it Sheila. I started looking things up to show my husband what great deals certain things were and give him an idea of the importance of not passing up quality of pieces.
DeleteGood hunting. I love successful thrifting stories. These clothes are superb.
ReplyDeleteI have had good luck. Do you thrift?
DeleteYou are really good at thrifting. Newbie here. The Anne Klein coat is truly a gem!
ReplyDeleteI have had some great luck. Keep looking....you will get the hang of it. There is a bit of a strategy to finding good things. Generally, I begin with dresses because that's what I love to wear most. I don't just scan the dresses because they are always so packed that I look through each one and I don't just look in my size. Pieces are often placed in with the wrong size so I check them all out. It does take time. Maybe I should post my thrifting strategy.
DeleteThat coat was a great find, I don't have as much luck at the thrift store for my son, I usually go to once upon a child and have luck . Thanks for stopping by .
ReplyDeleteCarrie
Thanks, Carrie.....I have had unusually good luck at thrifting. I have shopped at Once Upon a Child and had some good luck there, but that was when my son was smaller. He's almost 8 now and I just figured that he may have outgrown the store. Maybe I should take another look there.
DeleteWhat fantastic finds! It was meant to be!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I have to say as the mother of boys, by the time my boys are done with their jeans, they generally go straight into the trash. I'm lucky if the jeans I buy for my older son even make it as hand-me-downs to my younger son. I used to wonder why my older sister who also has boys never had any hand-me-downs for us, and now I know!
They really do wear them until they can no longer be worn! Ah, gotta love our boys.
DeleteSounds like the thrifting gods have been smiling on you!! I'm glad for that. I think if we appreciate our good fortune and spread the love, it all comes back. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with those you love. XXOO
ReplyDeleteThey have Jean. I feel fortunate to have had such good fortune thrifting. I wasn't a big fan of it until the last couple of years. All it took to get me on board was seeing the wonderful outfits that my favorite style bloggers put together and finding that first great item at a thrift store that assured me that there are great clothes in thrift shops.
DeleteYou must have some amazing thrift stores where you live. I have never been that lucky.
ReplyDeleteAll purchases are wonderful but I love the coat on you - very glam.
Thank you.....there are several thrift stores in my town. My home town is full of restaurants, antique stores and thrift stores. Off the top of my head, I an count 8 thrift stores.
DeleteWhat fantastic finds! Your coat is to timelessly sophisticated - and very cozy - looking. I own a great pair of sandy taupe hued Anne Klein heels and love them to bits.
ReplyDelete♥ Jessica
I've become a big fan of Anne Klein. Love her shoes. I think this coat is a 'sandy taupe' color too, isn't it?
DeleteHaha, my boyfriend is exactly like your husband, he wears his jeans until they are not anymore "wearable" ;-) "no why should I spend money on new pants when I still have these here?" *sigh* Well, but at least I usually manage to make him buy something in the sales!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your dress and your coat!
xxx Anita
Thank you for the compliment!
DeleteOh my goodness, this coat is STUNNING. It has gorgeous lines and how fantastic that it has a hood! Anne Klein coats are fabulous they last forever and ever, but usually are so insanely expensive. This was a killer find at the thrift store! (Well, everything was quite the find, its so exciting when thrift store trips work out like that and you leave with gorgeous, well made stuff.)
ReplyDeleteMy son is the same way as well, he destroys his pants so fast but he refuses to throw them away. I'll toss a ragged pair in the trash and he'll just fish them back out again. The only way I can ever get him to wear new one is if his uncles tell him that his new pants are cool. (He loves his uncles so much, he always tries to copy them in everything, even the way they walk. It's adorable.) Anyways, back on topic, the thrift stores are awesome for finding kids pants, I usually can find those really thick denim ones there that take forever for the knees to wear out.
Katie.....my son is the same way about his brothers (I have two adult sons too). He will do whatever they tell him is cool. That works for food too; if my oldest son tells him to try some food he says he doesn't like, he tries it and usually likes it (except for sushi!).
ReplyDeleteI know it was very good luck to find this coat. I couldn't find the full retail price for it, but I think they are pretty pricey. I have enough coats, but I could not pass this one up....I've wanted a hooded coat for years.
Of course a perfect LBD has to be bought! You look great! Is the necklace from the Lia Sophia, it looks like a very interesting and beautiful piece!
ReplyDeleteIt is a Lia Sophia necklace!
DeleteDang, you are a great thrifter! If only we can shop together one day!

I have had some good luck....it really just takes patience.
DeleteYou really scored! A perfect LBD is always welcome, and a new winter coat is a wonderful item to thrift. You look beautiful in your bright scarf. Can't wait to see your other items.
ReplyDeleteThank You, Lynne. I'm so happy to get the coat!
