Stripes and More Stripes

Just a quick post of a couple of outfits I've worn in the last couple of days.  There is nothing spectacular here...but lots of stripes, which I happen to love.

I'm unhappy with my recent weight gain and have to get serious about eating right.  It's been a real struggle for me and now its just time to get more disciplined.
I'm giving myself a goal to lost at least 6 pounds before I head to Indianapolis for the 9 week job training marathon on May 20th.  I'm hoping the hotel that the cohort of new employees are staying in will have a gym so I can also work out there.  I've got to get control of this!

On a positive note....I'm really looking forward to my new career adventure and can't wait to start.  I'm also excited about exploring Indy..and taking some lessons with some really stellar ballroom coaches there.  I will be home on weekends and working with Marcel then.  I will NEVER replace him, but its an opportunity to take coachings from the top guys in Indy.
I have a competition in Indy in June....which is kind of cool because I can just go to my room there early (though I will have to pay for the extra days) and I won't have to do any extra travel!

OK...now...I'm off to do some exercise!
My new healthy lifestyle resumes NOW.

  1. Such fun stripes! I don't wear a lot of stripes myself (not entirely intentionally or unintentionally, I just seem to have more of several other patterns in my closet), but always think they look so cute (or chic, as the case may be on others).

Best of luck with your healthy lifestyle goals, dear gal, I'm sure you'll do amazing!

    1. Jeannie....I will be home on the weekends. My oldest son, his wife and my grandson will be moving in for the 9 weeks so that someone will be there to get my youngest son off to school. My hubby works very early in the morning. I'm sure my house will be a big mess when I come home on weekends.....which won't be good, but I just have to remember this is a temporary arrangement.

  3. I am fighting that battle over and over again too. Right now I am at a good track, and it is partly thanks to that it is much easier to get hold of fresh fruits, vegetables, and fish in Edinburgh than where I live in Sweden, which makes it much more pleasant to eat healthy, although it is more expensive than buying cookies. I currently also have a 25 minutes walk to the University compared to my usual 2 minutes, which o course makes a huge difference. I know you can do it! I always love stripes, and yours are no exception!

  10. Lovely skirt Lisa and all the best starting the new job and health regime! You've reminded me I should put some goals around making time to exercise for myself in my teaching schedule - I've let that slip in the last couple of years.

  15. Hi Lisa!
I too struggled with weight all of last year and still do - I just had a tough time being 'happy' when I just didn't feel it...

The good news@ It didn't last forever. I've lost almost 30lbs and it was mostly due to stress and a defective thyroid glans (which is common in the mid-years)...
Hang in there, this is but a blip on your beautiful stripey life :)
    All works out (hindsight:20/20,lol1)

    1. Thank you, Reva. I know that part if the extra weight is due to hormones and life change and part is due to being less physically active since I returned to school to get my masters degree....
I'm working on it...but I do slip up on the healthy eating every now and then....those sneaky carbs!

  16. I like the stripes, Lisa and your necklace is gorgeous.

If you don't feel comfortable, the only way is a change of eating habits rather than a diet. Getting there slowly, not too many restrictions at the same time (not realistic) but eventually it will be your way of eating and it is more sustainable.
Good luck with it - I am on the same line, trying to cut carbohydrates, especially in the evening and start running again!

    1. Cutting out carbs is the difficulty for me...although I am putting more effort into it. I'm also less physically active right now because I have to sit and write papers for my master's degree and so I don't do as much. I'll keep forging ahead though! I'm determined!
