I admit that I've always looked at women wearing skinny jeans with envy. I love their easy elegance and versatility.
Until two days ago, I thought skinnies were off the radar for me; I figured that I'm just too curvy.
I even tried on a few pairs and felt that they looked ridiculous.
I have a unique figure; I'm a pear, but I'm super skinny everywhere but my butt and thighs; they are way out of proportion with the rest of my body. I could easily wear a side 4 or 6 dress if it wasn't for my extreme pear shape.
I've dealt with this for many years, so I have become pretty adept and minimizing the appearance of my pear, but I can't completely camouflage my shape. It is especially noticeable in the snug fitting ballroom dresses I wear at competition. I often say (with humor) that my backside is of "J. Lo and Kim Kardashian proportions....at the same time". I can't go anywhere and not hear a comment or two....mostly because this particular feature seems to belong on someone else's body. I've learned to tune the comments out, but I can be very self conscious about this particular body feature.
Finally, I decided that enough is enough. I want to wear contemporary looking jeans and I crave the simplicity of skinny jeans.
So I decided to give this one more try. (I'm sorry for the bathroom photo, but this was my only opportunity to get a pic yesterday).
So here they are! I'm not unhappy with them. In fact, I actually like them.
These are "Not Your Daughter's Jeans".
Yes, I do have big hips and thighs, but they look OK in these jeans.
I'm thrilled!
I wore them comfortably and without any undue psychological discomfort of worrying about how I look.
I'm thrilled!
Yes, they are a bit pricy, but they are so worth it.
I feel like an entire genre of style has opened up for me. You will be seeing these often.

HAWT!! Yay! for you, trying out a new fashion trend, and rocking it too! The jeans look amaaaazing on you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Carolyn. It took a lot of positive self-talk to wear them in public but I really do like them.
DeleteYou look sexy in those jeans, Lisa! Love them. I have seen the brand around, but I'm just not a pants gal.
ReplyDeleteI'm not really a pants gal either, Sheila, but its just practical to have a few pairs of jeans....and I'm definitely going to give these a test run!
DeleteLove that you found jeans that works for you! I buy no brand jeans since I only get to wear them on the weekend. I don't have a curvy body but I have very large thighs & calves which makes finding skinnies a big challenge. I feel your pain in finding that perfect on trend jeans.

Jeans and bathing suits are extremely difficult to shop for and can really throw a woman's self-esteem into a tizzy. I'm so happy this was a good experience and was productive.
DeleteDude, there is nothing wrong with a little junk in the trunk. (That's awful about the comments though, I don't know why people feel it's okay to comment on a large chest or behind.)
ReplyDeleteSkinny jean are definitely tricky though, it took me a long time to figure out that skinny jeans in the juniors section were entirely the wrong fit for me. This pair looks AMAZING on you, I think when it comes to denim, you really do get what you pay for and it looks like you found a perfectly fitting pair.
That last picture is so sweet, what a cute pair of guys. :)
Thank you, Katie. Its not easy to find the right pair. Jeans can really do a number on self esteem! I was helped by a wonderful sales lady......she was probably in her very late sixties, and didn't seem to be the "type" to be up on the skinny jeans trend, but was very in tuned to what looks good. See, stereotype proved wrong!
DeleteTo find the correct jeans is not easy task I suppose but there ARE jeans for every figure type. One just need to find them. The ones you bought look good on you and indeed worth the money you spent on them.
ReplyDeleteThanks Olga; I am happy with them. You are right....finding proper fitting and good looking jeans is a difficult task! I'm not a big jeans wearer, but I need a pair to two and I'm happy I found them.
DeleteYou look smokin' in those jeans! Well worth the money spent. Heather
ReplyDeleteThank you Heather. I felt very comfortable in them; both physically and psychologically.
DeleteLove them! You wear them with pride - you look great in them! X
ReplyDeleteThank you. I really like them. I just don't look in the mirror at the backside!
DeleteThose jeans are a keeper!! You look GREAT!
ReplyDeleteSome of us, I'm talking about me, would love a little meat on the backside. Embrace your shape cuz there are a lot of us who would love to be more like you!
Hi Jeannie, I do like them. By the way....if I gave you a little of my extra, I would still have plenty left!
DeleteIdeally like e pair you picked. I don't look good in skinnies at all! I have two pair, but only wear them with boots.

Deletejust my personal opinion i think skinnies even look better on curvier women! i think you look great!
ReplyDeleteDelightful Ideas
Thank you Lala......I'm quite surprised that I found a pair that works!
DeleteI have a pair of skinnies from Levi's and I think the key to a pear wearing skinnies is to wear heels .. no flats. You look great <3

I agree with Monica! I'll wear heels if I can wear skinnies!
DeleteYou are rocking this skinnies something fierce, dear gal! Seriously, they look incredible on you. Your whole body shape is gorgeous in anything you wear, please don't worry at all. Mother Nature does not work from one mold alone, and it's fantastic, if you ask me, when she decides to bless some of us with oodles of curves.

*These* sorry, I have a puppy trying to help me type at the moment :)
Delete♥ Jessica
Thank you, Jessica. Awww......don't you just love puppies?!
DeleteLook are looking fabulous in these skinnies lady! I understand what you mean by feeling this has opened up a whole new fashion element for you. I usually pair my skinnies with a boot for a little 'balance behind' so I know what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteLove this on you!
xx, Heather
Thanks you Heather. I may try boots too sometime!
DeleteWOW! You look fantastic - not just "okay", not just "pretty good for..." - fantastic! Invest in a second pair and strut your stuff ;-)
ReplyDeleteSpashionista (Alicia)
Thank you so much! I felt pretty good in them!
DeleteYay to the first pair of skinnies
ReplyDeleteI don't think you actually have to be skinny to wear them
Heck the pants people would be out of business if that were the case
You look fantastic
Brett
Thank you, Brett......I'm loving wearing them!
DeleteI think no one, regardless of their size, finds jean shopping fun, so when you find a pair that fits, flatters and is a style you may not have considered? AMAZING! Go you!
ReplyDeleteJeans shopping is stress inducing! Thank you for the compliment, Cara!
DeleteI'm glad you like your jeans!
ReplyDeleteThank you Kathleen. I'm not a big pants wearer, but I'd like to have a pair or two! Now I do!
DeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteseems you found the perfect jeans for you. It is always a miracle finding a jeans appropriate. You look absolute cute in it! And in your striped tee too!
Thank you Sabine......it is like a mini-miracle to find nice fitting jeans!
DeleteGo a head and wear skinny jeans Lisa! I do it too despite that most of my fat tends to accumulate on my hips and but too! You look very stylish in them from what I can tell from the photos!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I think you look great in them. I know I'm petite but my behind is the biggest bit of me (followed by thighs!) and I am technically a pear. I do often dress to hide my pearness but I wear skinny jeans - I find they are a great wardrobe staple.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to add this new dimension to my wardrobe. I'm looking forward to the versatility.
DeleteAwesome!! You're looking fabulous in those skinny jeans! (Having a very similar shape myself, you've convinced me I may need to look into a pair.
