I love my new boots!

Boots, Blondo waterproof boots; unbranded skirt, thrifted; Gap sweater, thrifted; necklace, Lia Sophia from current catalog.
Last week, when I broke my spending resolution, I did so to take advantage of end-of-season sales. These beautiful boots were one of my sale-splurges.  They were on sale; but it wasn't a bang-up sale.  Still, I knew I had to act fast or miss out, because retail boot season is coming to a close.  I had been looking for a pair of sturdy, weather resistant black boots with a mid-height heel that were still stylish.  I found them...and I've worn them nearly every day since purchasing them.

"Estate" by Lia Sophia.  This is a long necklace, but can be worn short too.  Many of the LS line have large enough bales so that you can choose to wear them short or long.  Sigh....can you tell I love my Lia?
BTW; this weekend I will probably setting up a web site with them so that you can click on a link and purchase LS jewelry from me!

Blondo boots; Jones New York dress; unbranded necklace.
Pardon my odd posture.  It was really cold and my eight year old son was not really feeling the role of photographer.  I love this dress, but after seeing the pictures, didn't like the belt with it so I removed it.  It looks much better without, but I didn't get a picture.  Belt and long necklace together is not a good look!

Uh oh...I cheated on LS!! Shhhh.....don't tell! Although I am devoted to my LS, I do occasionally wear other pieces.  I adore this piece and just had to wear it.  I have a thing for hearts and a thing for vintage inspired pieces.

Ta da.....the boots.  I am really in love with them.  They are very comfortable.  The first few days they were stiff, but wearing them daily has broken them in just enough.  I think they are great, but I will warn you that they're pretty narrow in the calf.  I don't have large calves, but they are a little muscular from dancing.  The boots have an elastic gusset which allows them to flex and they aren't tight (just slightly snug), but they may not work if you have medium to larger calves.  I'm not sure if there is a wide calf version.  I'm very happy with this purchase and believe that they were worth breaking my spending moratorium.

I'm off school and work today, and I'm not sure what to do with myself!
I am avoiding shopping and having lunch out.
I've cleaned and purged and reorganized my house (I do this before the start of every semester), so I'm "cleaned" out.  Do I dare sit down and read a book or a magazine just for fun?

  3. Cute striped dress! I think it looks good with the belt, but imagine it even better without.
Cute and practical boots...so nice that they're waterproof and still dressy enough to wear to work or out with friends.

  6. I love a good house cleaning and purging when the new year starts as well. We were so ruthless in doing so last year when we moved, that (as far as decluttering goes at least), I get to skip this January's, but I've already done the cleaning - it's just so nice to start a new year off a literal clean slate (or at least some super clean floors :D).

Your new boots are marvelous! I completely see why you broke your no spending rule (which I'm pretty much adopting myself at the moment, too) to buy them. They're the kind of classic piece that will never, ever go out of style and which will work with a zillion and one outfits.

  9. Hi Lisa,
Looking at this fabulous post reminds me...that you exude confidence in your photos. I took my first 'how I wore it post' and it was rocky to say the least. Lisa, what is your secret to being so confident in your photos? Is it that fabulous smile?
    I want to know ;)

  10. I am putting myself on a shopping budget starting Feb since I've already exceeded in Jan. Love your new boots! I have a hard time wearing belts with long necklaces too. I don't like how they hit each other. Looking at the outfit - you look fab!

Belts can be so awkward with long necklaces....

  11. It's surprisingly hard to find a good pair of water proof boots, but these are gorgeous! (I always have trouble waiting for clearance on boots, my size always sells out first so they're usually something I have to jump on.) They really look beautiful with your striped sweater dress, that is just a perfect, cozy winter outfit! and your vintage inspired charm bracelet is so lovely, I really like the brass color metal and vintage inspired jewelry is always the best. :)

  12. Great boots. Very stylish. I love boots but don't buy any 'cause my use is so limited (i.e., photoshoots). I can't seem to justify the cost. They are on sale, however... You look terrific. Can I hire your child-photographer?

    1. Haha......he's been a very reluctant photographer lately!

I think you could do boots, if you wear trousers, you can wear them under trousers.

  13. Lisa! That necklace is stunning. Worn against that sweater, it is so elegant and beautiful. I really love it, and must get my own version of it! You look fantastic in that white/cream sweater, definitely compliments your skin tone!

    1. Which necklace, Clare? The Lia necklace or the heart necklace. I can go to the shop find the name of the company, if you send me a reminder comment so I don't forget to tell you.

  14. I think it is perfectly fine to break the shopping restriction if there is something that is on your shopping list that is on sale, or at least cheaper than usual. Nice comfortable boots are hard to find, as I already told you I bought two pairs at the sale. However, I am only in love with one pair of them (the brown pair that I wear on my 200 post post), the other pair that is black is a little bite too big, but I did not realize until it was too late. I wished I had your lovely black boots instead, although I would never fit into somethings with narrow calves.

    1. Hi Anna.....

I agree, and they are a very practical item.
Have you tired putting insoles into the boots that are a little big? I wear insoles in very pair of shoes I own.
