A Day of Coaching........a dream dress

Yesterday I spent several hours with Marcel at a studio receiving coaching with the highly regarded ballroom dance coach and adjudicator, John Swick.  Every time I do this...my dance feels better.  I'm hoping to bring some of the tools he's given me to sharpen my skills and being the best dancer I can be to the floor.  I'm getting excited about putting this dress on again.
I haven't lost any of the weight I've wanted to lose.  But I have a month to still lose a few lbs. to look my best in the dress.

Here's where I am with the fit right now.  In your face curves that I'd like to tame a bit.  Acceptable, but not as polished and fit as I need to be.

On the way home from the coaching, Peyton and I pulled over by the lake near my home and captured a picture of the sun setting behind the water.  I brought extra clothes to wear home because I knew I would get really sweaty working with John...and it was cold.  It felt great to change into warm dry clothes for the drive home.

I don't wear a lot of vibrant color, but I love this limited sweater and this color combination.

Hi, there!

Lia Sophia 'Demure' earrings and necklace.

Delicate and not as bold as my usual jewelry choices, but it worked well with this sweater.

You can see John's legs in the background; under his watchful eye, Marcel and I are working on technique.
*This photo clearly shows the...ummmm.....challenge I face when dressing every day.

I wore this Lia Sophia 'Aristocrat' necklace and peach shell  during the lessons.....the dark colored stones are actually a pale blush, but photographed so much darker.  In person, its really beautiful and delicate.
.....and this very bland grey pants and cardi.

.....and now for a little dreaming.........

I am in love with this Elle designs gown.  Its on my wish list. I have long desired a black gown; its the first thing I ever really wanted gown-wise.  I was shut down by Marcel who says that black gowns make you blend in with your partner.  Sigh.  Someday, I'm getting one.  I'll put lots of AB crystal stones on it won't look so dark and so that I will stand out from my partner.
Its my dream dress.
I need to win a few more comps to earn the money to do buy this dress...and perhaps find an extra part time job.
I've been working on curbing my wardrobe spending, cutting back on magazines (I'm addicted to them) and paying of the last of the credit cards.  I'm buying 95% thrift.
Dance is my passion (as you might have figured out).  I'm willing to cut back in other areas to spend more time competitive dancing.  Can someone please make me this dress?  ;)

  1. Your dress is amazing ... if you really stick with it and do some serious ab work you'll easily be smoother by the time you go to your comp ... and even if you don't, you look stunning.

Your truly look so stunning in vibrant colours that I'm edging you on to consider adding more to your closet .... your face lights up so beautifully.

Loving the sunset photo and your 'demure' jewellery is fabulous.

Hope your week is as awesome as you are.

  3. That dress is so gorgeous! You look wonderful in it now, don't worry - I think curves are fabulous! I really mean that. Not sure if I've delved into this topic before in my comments to you, but I just love it when women have curves. Beauty comes in all sizes and shapes for sure, but I adore it when ladies have womanly figures and aren't ashamed of them. Goodness knows I'm not a stick, and I truly hope I never end up as one (I was once about 10 pounds lighter when I was really, really ill and in and out of the hospital for a few months and looked like a gaunt bobblehead - not fun, or healthy, at all!).

  4. The dress you own is sooo beautiful, but the black is very nice too, so I can see why you crave it. Sorry, I am very bad a sewing, but I am very good a glueing, a skill I learned in kinder garden, so if you would live closer, I would be happy to help you glue crystals when you have won all the competitions so you could by the dress! The zebra scarf is so pretty too!

  5. The dress you first pictured is so beautiful. I love all the beading details. I know I keep preaching about this but it works:) Give up the wheat and pasta, eat eggs for breakfast...you'll drop some pounds:) I eat low carb now and I don't have the cravings I used too. I'm telling you it works:)))

    1. I'm making some changes, Joanna...although I can't eat eggs. My stomach gets terribly upset.
I dont do a lot of pasta,,,but I do eat a lot of bread and cheese; weaknesses of mine!

    2. Even now you are fabulous:) I love seeing your dancing outfits...amazing:)) You know I find cheese to be a-okay for me, it's the bread and pasta I had to give up:)

  6. I'm excited for you!! The competition sounds exhilarating and something to look forward to. I am in awe of dancers of any style; it's so not part of my skill set and I love it as an art form. I know I've said this before, too, but I think you look great. I know I'm not supposed to feel envious, but if I could, I'd be envious of that hip-waist ratio!! Mine is non-existant. So moral of the story: just know that others think we're fabulous, and so should we.

Speaking of fabulous, I agree with you about that black dress. It's really special.

    1. Jean, you are right...we often wish we had what we don't have or don't appreciate what we do have, body-wise. I don't mind the curves...just the lack of tone.

Thank you...that black dress is waaayyy out of my budget. I have some pretty fabulous dresses...but when it comes to ballroom gowns there's fabulous and then there's FABUUULLOOUUUSSSS!

    1. I subscribe to several, but I have a hard time avoiding temptation when I see a new one on the shelves. I get the home and tear out pages of clothing I love and put them in a fashion scrapbook that I keep. A little crazy, I know.

And.....I also find that I don't have as much time to look at them as I would like.

  12. I admire your dedication to your dance lessons... I can do the waltz but that's about it ;-) But I love opportunities when I can dress up.
I am sure you will look stunning - isn't it all about how you feel?
Looking forward to your photos of the ball!

  13. WOW! That is a dream dress, the beading on is so beautifully done on the golden color just looking amazing on you. (The skirt looks like it has amazing movement.) It's so exciting about your upcoming dance, it sounds like it's going to be hardcore but fun.
I love your outside photo as well, its so pretty there with the snow and the sun setting in the background. (The purple and the zebra print together is amazing, so vibrant!)
