Guess what I'm doing tomorrow.....

Yep...I'm competing in Chicago.

I was scheduled to compete and I didn't want to drop out; I think trying to return to normal is the best way to heal.  I will be competing two days and in both styles....International Standard and American Smooth.  I'm very excited, as always when I compete.  I love it so much...it brings me joy, comfort and peace.

It was breezy today and I love how this picture captures that....

I'm really not all that crazy about the way this outfit turned out.  I think the belt takes away from the clean lines of the dress...

but I do love this Joan &David leather belt..

...and my Lia Sophia pin.  Oh, by the way....I'm going to become an LS consultant.  They have a sweet sing up deal going right now on their start up kit, with LOTS of jewelry, including a necklace I've been drooling over.  I'm kind of excited about it.  I won't be a super motivate seller, but I'll host a few parties, make a little money, get a little jewelry and have some fun.

I went to my favorite consignment store today (Closet Exchange) which is right across the street from the ballroom studio.  The convenience of this is probably not a good thing for my budget...but I wanted to buy a little bit of solace.  I know this is not really the way to do that...but I also needed some fall sweaters and a brown belt..and voila'; I found them.

This is so pretty on....

and so is this Talbot's sweater

I love the pretty detail and the satiny collar....

and I found this gorgeous camel August Silk sweater.
I'm pretty pleased with the new additions to my wardrobe and think I will get lost of wear out of them.

I will be posting some pics from the ballroom comp...again  ;)

I'm going to wear the vanilla/chocolate tomorrow night for the Standard (stuffy) and I will wear the hot pink dress for Smooth (flashy).

I feel good about this.
See you after the comp!

  1. Good luck, Lisa! Knock 'em dead! Love both dresses you picked.

I like the brown belt - it helps tie all the other shades of brown together against the black background of the dress. Trust yourself, not the photo.

    1. Thanks for the good luck wishes, Sheila. I love all of my dresses...but the two I picked fit me best. I really need to lose 5 lbs to wear the green one better.

I did like the belt when I put the outfit on. I had positioned it differently and somehow it ended up moving and I didn't like it as much. I'm glad you like it anyway!

  2. Oh, how exciting about the competition, I'm glad that you are going through with it. (And would love to see photos of you dancing in it!) Its good to do something that makes you happy and gives you piece. :) Good luck in the competition.

And as always, I love seeing your thrifting/consignment finds. Talbots make such lovely cardigans, they just last and last forever.

    1. Thanks Katie!

I'm glad to know Talbot's sweaters are durable..I've never purchased anything from Talbots.
I used to shop only retail; but I converted to thrifting shortly after I started reading style/outfit blogs. I realized that there was no reason I couldn't dress as well wearing thrift as everyone else and save money too. Now I almost never shop retail. It's fun...it's like a treasure hunt.

I'll post comp pics as soon as I get them!

    1. Thank you. She never got to see me compete. She always wanted to, but she was not mobile enough to do so and she didn't feel comfortable in crowded places. She did get to see me dance in showcase performances, though and she cried.

    1. Thank you, Heather. These might be boring....I'm wearing the same dresses, so they might look the same as the others! I hope to get some good action shots.

  10. It's healthy to return to normal life after a tragedy. It eases our path back to recovery. I'm glad you went to the competition.

I sympathize with your uncertainty about the belt. Readers are always telling me to add a belt to my outfits (to create a better shape) but I usually feel it detracts from the lines of a dress, as you note. That decision is often a tough call. We should rely on our intuition.

    1. Isn't it funny how you put an outfit together and you think it looks really goo...or an element of it looks good..then you see picture and cringe? That was what happened with the belt in this pic..thought it looked good till I saw the picture!

  11. I like the belt OR the scarf with the dress, both seems a bit much to me. I'm nuts about those boots with it, though!

    1. Maybe you are right....maybe both together are too much. I couldn't quite say want it was I didn't love about it...but I think you are right.

I'm crazy about those boots too...and they are so comfy!
