Brrrrrrr.....

Winter in the midwest has been deceptively warm this season, but the last few days have been bitter cold.  Yes, I was foolish enough to take off my coat to get an outfit picture.  I put it on reallyreallyfast when the picture was snapped! If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you can barely see a few snowflakes that were falling.

Calvin Klein sweater dress (unbelted this time!) Anne Klein cardigan, thrifted.  Lia Sophia jewelry, of course!
click to enlarge picture and you can see delicate little snow flurries.
I spent the afternoon with my friend Rose, having lunch and chatting. I've mentioned Rose in past posts; we grew up next door to each other and spent nearly every day playing together as children.  Rose's mother was the first person who had the guts to tell me that I was wearing way too much sparkly green eyeshadow.  Back in the day, I loved to pile it on.  My own mom never taught me how to put on makeup or set boundaries about it; I just had fun playing with her makeup and looked really foolish a lot of the time.

Rose is an elementary school teacher who took some time off to raise her children.  She's at a crossroads now; she is a natural writer and has participated in several writing courses and writing groups.  She wants to prepare to re-enter the work force, but isn't sure she wants to teach kids again.

She's thinking of starting a blog of her own and we bounced some ideas around about that.  I do hope she starts her own blog.  I think it will be a jumping point for her; a place to get her thought on 'paper' and get into the practice of writing daily.  We came up with a really precious name that I think captures the essence of the direction of her  life right now and I will share it when she begins blog writing.  I'd love to introduce you to her then.
Rose kindly took some outfit pictures for my blog; she's such a good sport and has done this on our other lunch dates, too.  I'm so happy we have rekindled our friendship.  Rose is a truly good person...honest, natural, real, genuine.  Her name suits her.

Leather gloves purchased at T.J. Maxx.  I lose gloves....often.  I'm organized and keep track of things well, but for some reason I'm always losing gloves.

I wore this scarf with the outfit too, but took it off at lunchtime.  I really love it tied in a big fluffy bow!

Lia Sophia 'coy' earrings in hematite.

I'm very tired today and I'm going to keep this post short and less wordy than usual.  I wanted to share this outfit because I felt really great in it.  The blue cardigan was a last minute addition, but I think it took the outfit from basic and bland to really special.

Its the weekend which means I'm going to be doing some dancing...unless the weather does what the weatherman says its going to do: Snow like crazy and make icy roads.

In that case, I'm staying home and being cozy.

  1. Lisa - how nice to have a friendship from childhood days. I've found a lot of my childhood friends through facebook but we do not live close by. It's so nice to keep in touch with long lost friends!

I do like how the blue sweater adds a nice touch to your pretty dress.

    1. Hi Alice! Facebook has been a tremendous place for me reconnect with many of my childhood friends and cousins. I am fortunate that many of them live nearby and that I've had opportunity to meet with them and get to know them again. I just can't believe how many wonderful people I have in my life. I feel so blessed.

    1. I'm so addicted to Lia Sophia jewelry. I do wear other jewelry sometimes, but LS has my heart. I could not afford it all though if I was not an advisor for Lia Sophia; they do make it easy to build my stock so that I can have great things to show the ladies. Catalogs just don't do justice. Thank you for the compliments!

    1. Hi Monica! No dancing so far this weekend...there's been too much snow. :(
Thank you; I have to force myself to wear color with my neutrals...I'm so addicted to neutrals...I often forget how just one shot of color makes the outfit!

  4. You look warm and chic Lisa! I agree, the blue cardigan takes this outfit to another level. I am loosing gloves too, and hats! I actually lost a similar hat as the grey I love to wear, and I had my friend from Iceland (where I got it) to buy me a new. It did get expensive, but it was worth it!

    1. How nice that you have a friend in Iceland so that you could get the hat replaced. It would be upsetting to lose an accessory you really love and not be able to replace it.

      Thank you for the compliment!

    1. Wendy....its hard sometimes, being a parent and working, not having time to spend with the children. On the other had..it can also be hard to difficult to not be in the work force...missing the social and creative element of it. Thanks for the compliment on the scarf Wendy. I would have never thought to tie my scarf in a big bow had I not seen it on a blog!

  6. I'm sure I had many hideous makeup faux pas days in my teens that nobody had the heart to tell me about! Good luck to Rose - I kind of starting a blog for similiar reasons - just wanting an outlet to write.
Love the shot of blue against the grey in this outfit and those gloves are gorgeous!

I have been fortunate to have retained and renewed many special life long friendships. I also have a very awesome relationship with one of my wonderful cousins. We say we are like the town cousins on the old Patty Duke show!

Sorry about your weather there. We had snow yesterday but unfortunately, we were out of town and missed the fun. Hubby really likes snow....don't ask me why. A kid in him, I guess.
Rose sounds like a wonderful friend.

  13. You've found some really gorgeous jewelry through lia sophia, it all has a very vintage inspired look to it and it really suits you. (That long tassel pendant is so fun and pretty.) I think that it's an amazing idea for your friend to start a writing blog, it's amazing how much just writing a little bit each day helps. (I'd gotten terribly out of practice since I finished school and it's been a struggle to come back and write a decent sentence.) I really enjoy reading various writing blogs so if she does start one, I would love to check it out. :)
I hope you had a great weekend and that your dancing practice went well!

    1. Thank you Adrienne. I think you might retract them if you lived in the midwest!
Honestly, though except for the cold snap, it hasn't been terribly cold lately. Midwest winters can get so bitter. I wouldn't mind the cold if we didn't get so many extremes!

      Thank you for the compliement!
