Hi everyone.....
THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO WISHED ME WELL AT THE COMPETITION!!
I'm finally starting to feel normal again....and put my house back together after the flurry of ballroom preparation.
This simple black dress and boots was the perfect, comfortable outfit to wear to drag all of my ballroom finery into the hotel and get settled. In this picture, I already have my ballroom makeup on: I did it the morning at home before I left.
The black dress above is my dress for the evening professional show.....its a formal event; the pro-am competition is over and we all gather to watch a glitzy professional show and competition.
At the pro show, after the pro-am comps are over, there is an awards ceremony in which the top 10 ballroom teachers are chosen.....
qualification is based on how many entries the teacher has and how many of those entries have placements in the top three.
That's Marcel!!! He placed in the top 10!
There are at least 60 or more instructors and its quite an honor to receive this recognition. I'm so happy for him.
I love that pouty face.
Surprise....I even tried my hand at American Rhythm (ChaCha, Rhumba and Swing). I'm a BALLROOM girl all the way, but did this for fun. I rented this dress....
I definitely think I will be dancing this style again; and I'm going to have a dress made....a simple tank style top with a skirt that comes mid thigh and is trimmed in a big Ostrich feather boa at the bottom. I had a blast.
As soon as some of the other pictures start to trickle in, I will post them.
By the way,
I place first, second and third in most of my dances....
except for the scholarship dance (money!)...
I place 5th out of 20....
which is ok.
I had a great time....
I've never danced so many dances at a comp before and it was tiring!
But I had a magical time.
Can't wait to catch up on all of your blogs!!!
The preparation before the dance is always the fun bit! Love your lashes (I find those so hard to put on!). Thank you for sharing the comp photos - the different colours of your costumes are so wonderful. You look so glamorous and so happy dancing (but maybe that's just to make it look easier than it is!)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much.
DeleteIts getting easier to put lashes on...its worth figuring out because the impact is really great!
I am happy dancing!!!
The ball room gown is gorgeous! I just love the light material, flowing pieces :-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you did GREAT! Would love to see more photo's when you have the time to post.

Thank you Monica. I will be posting more as they drift in. I have some friends who took photos and hopefully they got a few in the other dresses.
DeleteYour dresses are fabulous and you look so elegant and beautiful in the dancing photos.
ReplyDeleteLove the lashes - am presently considering some extensions as mine are so short.
Hugz and thanks for sharing
I've seen lash extensions, Wendy and they look great, but I hear they don't last long. I say go for it and have fun...isn't it wonderful to be a girl?!
DeleteYou look absolutely darling Lisa - in all your dresses!! Maybe I should start to dance to have a reason to buy beautiful dresses, do professional make-up, and have a hairdresser fix my hair! ;-) I could live with that!
ReplyDeleteTo be placed so high, especially given that you had an injury and that you danced at a higher level, is very impressive indeed! Again, congratulations to your achievements! Thanks for sharing the photos with us, it always makes me happy to see you happy!
You are so sweet, Anna.
DeleteOf course you know that I will agree that you should dance! I don't have professional do my makeup...that I do myself. After lots of practice and studying other ballroom dancers, I have gotten pretty good at it. Hair..I can't do my own.
You would love dance and wearing pretty dresses. And if you do ballroom dance, you have a friend (me) who can give you all kinds of advice!
Thank you for the compliments and encouragement. I hope you really do dance; it will make you so happy.
You look fabulous! I love your makeup and hair and the green dress...I bet you just feel so special in it:) Wonderful family picture!
ReplyDeleteThank you Joanna. The green standard dress is my favorite. I do feel very ballroom in it...but then I am just in awe of all the other higher level dancers whose dresses are even more blingy!
DeleteOh, Lisa! Thanks for sharing your photos! Living vicariously thru you. :)
ReplyDeleteYou look so lovely!! Congrats on your placements!!
Thank you so much, Jeannie. I love competing but I'm so glad to be back in the 'real world'
DeleteCongrats, Lisa! You did a great job! And sounds like you have a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteI did have a good time. Competition is kind of like a fantasy world.
DeleteThank you, Lisa
You look amazing - wish I could dance. Well done for the places....what a fantastic achievement! Love hearing about these events you do. Xx
ReplyDeleteThank you. You could learn to dance :)
DeleteWow, congratulations, it sounds like you did a really amazing job. (And how fun about trying the latin dance, I'm so happy that you enjoyed yourself.) I really love seeing your different hairstyle for each dance, are there set styles or is it more of a general look that dancers are required to have?
ReplyDeleteAll of your dresses are so gorgeous and they look like just pure fantasy to wear but that green dress will always be my favorite, it has such beautiful movement when you dance. The picture of your family is so sweet as well! (Hah, I recognize the look on your little guy's face! My brothers use to get that look at the horse shows and then my little sister would get the same look at our marital arts tournaments. It's pretty boring if you're a little one and you're watching.)
Katie, Thank you for you kind words.
DeleteI had a great time at this comp.
For ballroom, the hair must be really tidy and stay in place. I don't recall of you watch Dancing with the Stars....but they do some crazy non-ballroom hair on that show. For competition, hair that moves is very distracting to everyone (dancers, judges) and takes away from the clean lines and movement during the dance.
I think the green dress is my favorite too! :)
My little guy has started ballroom dance and enjoys it. He's also made some ballroom friends...but he still gets bored if he has to sit and watch too long!
Congratulations on a fabulous weekend! You look amazing and obviously performed beautifully. Thank you for sharing the joy!
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you. I had a wonderful time. It is so much fun, but very hard work too. I'm still recovering!
DeleteCongratulations, dear Lisa, this sounds like such a marvelous weekend! I adore your elegant hairstyle and eye make-up (wee side note, did you know, I've never worn fake eyelashes - perhaps one day I will if I can find some good glue that works for those with ultra sensitive skin).
ReplyDeleteThat vibrant shade of green looks so luminously, ethreally beautiful on you - what an incredible dress!
♥ Jessica
Tiny typo, sorry - *ethereally*. :)
Delete♥ Jessica
Thank you so much for all of your kind words Jessica. You are always so positive and I truly appreciate that.
DeleteI have very sensitive skin too....and I'm careful about the eyelash glue. I use Duo brand. it stays in place, but it is not painful to take them off and no irritation. I never wore them until I started competing ballroom.
The green dress is my favorite one!
it all looks fun and glamorous
ReplyDeletelove the eye makeup
i can't do a cat eye to save my life
so glad you had fun
brett
I had great fun and thank you Brett.
DeleteThere is a special technique to creating a cat eye...and its simple once you learn it! Maybe someday I will do a cat eye and eyelash application tutorial...
Thanks, Brett.......I did have a great time.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a Loonnnggg time to learn how to do the makeup, but now its a snap. Hiar is another story. Still have to pay someone to do it for me, but I'm going to figure it out one day.
Congrats on doing so well at the competition, it must have been so much fun. And I think its great you danced outside your comfort zone, it's good to push yourself a little in that respect.
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
It is good to stretch and go beyond the comfort zone. I will definitely try Rhythm style again.
DeleteHow fun dancing must be! Your dresses are a girl's dream!!!
ReplyDeleteby the way, how close to Evansville are you?
Reva
Hi Reva.....I'm in Northwest Indiana near Chicago...so about 5 hours away from Evansville I think....
DeleteThank you for the compliment. I know how blessed I am to have the opportunity to dance...but you know, I never went to a prom or a high school dance...these dressed totally make up for it!!
You are simply amazing!! I loved these photos showing the details of your dance outfits, pretty hair and jewels. You did so well~congrats on this huge accomplishment (and most importantly-you had a blast!)
ReplyDeletexx, Heather
Thank you Heather...you are so sweet. I had a very good time and this comp was special because its in my hometown and there was a lot of support from the studio and friends.
DeleteGreat posts and so atmospheric. I am loving catching up.
ReplyDeleteWell...there you are!
DeleteI'm glad you are enjoying!
Beautiful dresses! My 9 yr old granddaughter dances for the costumes (LOL) but she loves it too. Congrats on the high placements you took, all of your hard work paid off. It's fabulous that you can have so much fun doing something you love!
ReplyDeleteI bet your Granddaughter has a great time. I hope she sticks with it.
DeleteI've never had the desire to dance competitively, but man oh man, your dresses alone make me consider it!Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteDo you ballroom dance? The dresses are definitely one of the fun parts; I'm so addicted to looking at all the dresses the vendors brink in. I bet you would love it.
DeleteWOW so happy for you - and for Marcel !!!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite part of dancing would be dressing up - the dresses are dreamlike.
Dresses are definitely one of the best things about it. I love playing dress up.
