The Indiana Challenge Ballroom Competition is less than a month away.
I have so much work to do to get up to par its not even funny.
The IC is my favorite comp; I've done quite a few but none has the level of excitement for me that this one, near my hometown, does.
Its a pretty large competition, lasting four days. There are many, many events packed into those four days and I try to take in the whole experience. Although we only live about 10 miles from the hotel in which the competition is held, we still rent a hotel room, because it really is a marathon experience.Tomorrow I am meeting my instructor and professional coach, John Swick for a 2 hour intense coaching session in Illinois. I love taking coachings from John because he awakens a greater understanding of how to create the desired movement. Its a treat and a necessity.
I have much work to do, so I'm keeping this post short.
I really love ballroom, but all of you already know that. I've said this before, (more like I've droned on and on about this) but I hope to inspire you to dance if it is what your heart desires. Don't let the lack of a willing partner stop you. I don't! My instructor is my competition partner and it just brings me so much joy compete with him. I love dance, I love competing, I love the sparkle, glamour, dresses makeup, the music and watching the other dancers. I love everything about it.
This competition is my sweet Valentine.
I can feel your excitement and love for dance when I read your post! It is wonderful that you have found something that you love so much! Good luck will all the preparations! I keep my fingers crossed from the other side of the Atlantic! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anna. It is the most exciting time of the year for me.
DeleteBest of luck! It sounds like an exciting four days!
ReplyDeleteThank you V, it is an event!
DeleteI hope you have a wonderful time an dlook forward to seeinig the photos.
ReplyDeleteI hope I will be able to get photos....most of the comps are cracking down on spectators taking photos because the professional photographers complain that it hurts their business. The pros charge outrageous prices for a 5x7! I will try and get some and have my husband snap some of me if possible.
DeleteI'm so glad that you do this for yourself! Fabulous:)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joanna. I believe that everyone needs to have that one thing they do just for themselves. It helps keep me grounded and happy.
DeleteI did love the dance lessons I took years ago .. but ugh, it's so expensive. I had to pass it up.

It is expensive, Monica. I am fortunate enough to have an instructor who charges a bit less than the others, but is better than most of them. It does help that I sometimes make a little money if I win scholarship dances at the comp!
DeleteLisa!! Hope this is a wonderful weekend for you - sounds fabulous to be dancing it away! :) Dance is such a beautiful creative expression!
ReplyDeletexo, sam
Thank you, Samantha. I know it will be a wonderful weekend. The countdown begins!
DeleteLisa~I am so inspired by your passion for dancing. You are really making your dreams come true. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeletexx, Heather
Thank you, Heather. It has been my lifelong desire to ballroom dance and I feel very blessed to have this opportunity. Do you dance?
DeleteIt all sounds so exciting...intense but exciting. You are going to look and be amazing--I just know it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Heather. it really is exciting...and intense!
DeleteAll the best - sounds very exciting if a lot of hard work too! Go for it! X
ReplyDeleteThank you...it is hard work, but the kind of hard work that I don't mind doing.
DeleteGood luck, Lisa! Have a ball, and tell us all about it!!
ReplyDeleteI will, Jeannie!
DeleteI think it's wonderful you have something in your life you are so passionate about. I wish you the best of luck, and have a lot of fun!!
ReplyDeleteChic on the Cheap
Thank you, Lyddie! Dancing really makes me happy.
DeleteThe best of luck!
ReplyDeleteI really hope you post more pictures of your dancing, since I really enjoy your analysis of your style and the rules of the dance :)
Thank you, Carolyn. They might look the same as all of my other dance pictures since I'll be wearing the same three dresses! I will post them.....
DeleteLive the dream, buddy. Actually, you're living my dream as well! Someday, before I die, I want to do what you're doing. Everything about it is exciting and fun.
ReplyDeleteWhy wait?
Delete....maybe I'm remembering this incorrectly, but are you in New York? If so....there is a wonderful studio in New York called Dance Times Square. The owners are Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin. They were National Latin Champions in the late 90's...fabulous dancers. You can check out some of there dance footage on YouTube. Look for their Michael Jackson dance..Scorching hot. They also do choreography for the competitors on So You Think You Can Dance. Tony judges dance comps around the states...in fact, he's been a judge at one of the comps I danced at. It was pretty cool to see one of my dance idols in person.
DeleteAwww, I just adore your passion and the way you described this competition as being your sweet Valentine. That is truly beautiful.
