This is a preview of the tablescape I will be creating for another  event that I am volunteering for.  I'm in charge of decorations for a volunteer recognition/holiday party next weekend for the VAS organization.  I did my undergrad internship at the organization and stayed on as a volunteer when I was done.  I will post pictures of the decorations after the event on the 20th.  So excited to see how it turns out.
...so the word tree above OK is a bit dorky and silly but I couldn't resist.

One of the agencies I volunteer for, Northwest Indiana Adult Guardianship Services, hosts an annual symposium that is heavily attended by social workers, guardians and attorneys in order to meet requirements for continuing education.

It was nice to network, learn, eat and greet professionals and fellow volunteers. I even made an excellent connection for future employment.  I can't share details right now...but I can say it is my dream job,and I intend to follow up.  I was speaking her (the connection) and she asked if she could get a copy of the results of the study I'm conduction for my masters thesis. She also that it is very difficult to get applications seen but the right people, but that she would make sure mine got to the right place.  I'm very excited about this!!! Of course, I'm not actively looking for a job right now...but I am networking.

Its difficult to see my outfit in this photo, but its very basic and appropriate to wear to greet participants.  The skirt is a knee length pencil skirt and I am wearing my knee high suede boots.

This LS necklace didn't photograph weel...but its just beautiful and vintage-y looking in person.

Here are my two perfect bags.  The handbag is DKNY, purchased at an outlet store.  I don't like to carry a large everyday bag.  I'm very particular about bags; I want them to be functional, pretty and high quality.  I love this bag...its small, has a cross body strap AND I can fit a BUNCH of stuff inside.  I only wish I could find the exact bag in black.
The computer bag is Tahari and I love this one too.  I like a bag that has many inner compartments and a divider in the middle, and this one does, so its very functional.  I usually clean out my bags daily; I need them to be very organized.  I like purses that are easy to use.........and both of these bags are.  Perfect.  Even with the outlet store prices, these were both a little pricey.  Not over the top pricey, but not thrift store priced either.  I think its important to have a highly functional and good quality bag since it goes everywhere with me and I'm willing to splurge a little to get that.  These are truly the best two bags I have ever owned.

This is what I wore to the Lia Sophia party  I advised on Friday night.  It was NOT a good party.  I found out last week that the booking would be shared with an Arbonne rep; so it was a dual party.  When I learned this, I talked to my team leader and she told me that its difficult to do well at dual parties.  I didn't feel like it would be right to back out when I found out.  It was bad.  The other rep was very, VERY assertive and almost cutthroat.  I perceived her to be quite fake.  I am not shrinking violet, but I also choose my battles wisely, and this was not one I felt important to take on while I'm a guest in the hostesses home.  So, when she interrupted me about 15 minutes into my presentation, to say " How are we doing on time"; I smiled sweetly and wrapped it up.  Of course she spoke for a full hour.  Sales were not good and it was a disappointing evening.

My tights did cheer me up though!  I love this herringbone pattern!

Here's my display...

It didn't photography well, but  looked very pretty in person, and had the desired "french, vintage boudoir"that I was going for.  This party is behind me and I hope to be onto the next one in January.

Wishing all of you a warm and wonderful weekend.

  1. Sorry to hear about the party - those can be very awkward.

I love your word tree. I remember doing those in typing class in Grade 9 at Christmas time.

  4. The word tree is fantastic... I LOVE it!
That other sales rep sounds like a right cow. How rude to interrupt you like that. I hope the next party is better.

    1. Thank you Carolyn. She was definitely the more aggressive of the two of us. I just won't do a combined show again. I will only do my own Lia Sophia shows and not do shows with other vendors. Live and learn, I guess!

  8. Hah, i thought the word tree was fun, I started reading it and then realized, hey, it looks like a tree! (I'm a little slow to the party today...)

That's pretty awful about the party! That just seem insanely rude of the other lady, but how awful that they didn't tell you that it would be a dual party until such a late notice. :P

    1. Hi Katie, I was disappointed that it was a combined party, but I still needed to follow through with it. Oh well....I think the next one will be better.

  9. Lisa, I am so glad that you got to meet with a person that might be important for your future employment! As I have said before, I love to get a pdf copy of your thesis when it is ready. Your posts are always fun to read, and I love the little christmas tree you made! :-) I can't wait to see how the christmas decoration turned out, it looks very promising!

    1. Hello! Once the results of the study are in, and my paper has been written, I'm hoping to have it published. You know...I am hoping to present the findings at the GSA conference in November 2013!

I will be sure to post pics to the decorations!

  11. The bags are beautiful Lisa - I was just looking back at all the bags I had to get rid of during the year and realized that since some were poor quality I had basically thrown my money down the drain.
Yours seem to be very good quality - so I am sure they will last a long time :)
Oh and how I love how you have displayed the jewelry!

    1. Thank you, Lorena. I used to get tempted by cute purses...but they just didn't hold up and weren't very functional. I do pay a bit more for purses upfront, but I now only purchase higher quality bags that will last and that I will love! I really don't like to switch handbags often, but I end up doing just that if I'm not 100% satisfied with the one I have.
